Take
Me Out to The Ballpark!
Taking
the family to a baseball game used to be a great family activity.
Notice how I say “used to be.”
Years
ago, you’d pack up the kids in the station wagon on a Friday
evening, file into the ballpark, and cheer on the home team in what
was a fun, affordable family getaway. Today, after packing up the
kids in the gas-guzzling SUV, you head over to the billion-dollar
ballpark, where you get to watch a mediocre MLB team field a rag-tag
bunch of overpaid players, all while paying $8.00 for a Coke and
$5.00 for a hot dog.Not exactly what I’d call a family-friendly
environment – at least not on your pocketbook. So what do you do
if you really love the game of baseball and you want to impart your
passion onto your children? Head on down to your local Minor League
or collegiate ballpark, that’s what! Pennsylvania is fortunate
to have a number of great Minor League and collegiate baseball teams
and parks to choose from. Each is a refreshing change from the
multi-billion-dollar business of Major League ball, which feature
players who are actually playing for the love of the game, not just a
paycheck. Best of all, each provides a wonderful way to spend some
real quality time with your family.

Butler
Blue Sox

little facility that holds just under 1,500 people. A member of the
East Division of the summer collegiate Prospect League, the Blue Sox
played their inaugural season in 2009.
Throughout
the summer, over 16,000 fans came to cheer on this team, which is
hoping to make a run for the East Division Championship in 2010.
