Dumol Syrah Russian River
What makes this wine so great is the family that owns and operates the winery. Kerry Murphy is a world-class guy; while he is a die-hard Oakland Raider fan we will not fault him. This celebrated wine has an opaque black/purple color and is accompanied by a huge nose of white chocolate, pepper, acacia flowers, scorched earth, and blackberries. The wine possesses copious fruit, an unctuous texture, and a huge, full-bodied, blockbuster finish. You will absolutely love this wine.

Justin “Isosceles” Paso Robles
What a great wine that is “NOT” from Napa or Sonoma counties. It truly is a fine tasting Bordeaux blends (76% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Cabernet Franc, 7% Merlot, 2% Petit Verdot and 1% Malbec) from Paso Robles, it offers glorious aromas of camphor, creme de cassis, smoke, and subtle oak. Voluptuously rich and full-bodied with beautiful purity as well as a sense of elegance, definition, and harmony, this gorgeously proportioned, rich proprietary red should drink well for a decade or more. Kudos to the folks at Justin for a brilliant achievement in a wine once again from somewhere other than Napa or Sonoma.

Merry Edwards Sauvignon Blanc Russian River
Meredith Edwards, a true pioneer for women making wine in California. She makes world class Pinot Noirs, Chardonnay and Sparkling wine. It is her Sauvignon Blanc that stands out. It is not your traditional California Sauvignon Blanc. This compelling blend allures the senses with hints of citrus blossoms, lychee fruit and mango. Soft honey weaves its way through the sumptuous palate. Time in the cellar will allow even more richness and complexity to unfold. I truly love this wine.

Rodney Strong “Alden” Cabernet Alexander Valley
Perched at over 1200 feet, the Alden Vineyard is a unique environment to grow wine. At this elevation, Spring comes later, cooler, and, longer, naturally limiting berry growth size. The resulting smaller berries affect the overall skin to juice ratio in a manner that potentially makes for deep colors, powerful structure, and tremendous concentration of fruit flavors. Forward dark berry flavors with accents of chocolate, earth, and bold, spicy oak give this powerful wine a lot to offer for near term enjoyment, but classic mountain fruit structure will provide the patient with plenty of reward over the next 5 to 10 years.

Silverado “Vineburg” Chardonnay Carneros
A classic winery from Napa. They have been producing wines since the early 1970’s. The Vineburg Chardonnay is their only single estate wine. It is a unique offering; it has ripe apple and orange blossom aromas with vanilla and oak in the background. Stone and mineral aromas echo on the palate. Balanced acidity with a silky mid-palate lead to a zesty finish. Truly an easy-drinking wine.

Uriel Marcovitz, Sommelier, Sonoma Grille
Uri was raised with four other siblings in a particularly devout household. Having wine, other than ceremonial or even going out for dinner was extremely hard to come by. It wasn’t until attending a Grateful Dead concert and being introduced to a bottle of BV Rutherford Cabernet that he first discovered his new love for wine. From that moment on, Uri was hooked.
Uri has worked in the restaurant industry for 20 years. Excluding the executive chef position, Uri has held virtually every position throughout various local Pittsburgh restaurants. Then, as fate would have it, Uri and Yves Carreau met at the right time. Starting his partnership with Yves at Asiago, they are now partners at the Sonoma Grille. Uri has successfully achieved the status of Advanced Level Sommelier (just a step away from Master Sommelier). Uri describes his love for wine, “I find wines to be mystical and magical. All of those flavors from just a grape; it is absolutely amazing.”
