ECO LIFESTYLES: View You World Through Green Eyes

eco lifestyles

To some, “going green” may stir up images of eating organic salad by candlelight, while wearing a burlap sack, after arriving home from a long day of work at the wind farm…via bicycle. In reality, going green is about expanding the ideal of a healthy lifestyle. Though it may require drastic changes by some, it's really about making the same seemingly inconsequential choices with wiser decisions.

Though the good benefits of going green are countless, perhaps the most intriguing is the realization that our individual choices really do make a difference, both personally and collectively. Living a green lifestyle reminds us of the important role we each play in the overall wellbeing of our earthly habitation. It reminds us that we not only have the responsibility to think, but that we process the ability to do so. Settling for “the same old way it’s always been done” has become outdated and rather—annoyingly—synthetic.

GREEN POWER-WISE: X vs. GREEN

Power Outlet vs. Power Strip:
Plugging items into a power strip rather than an outlet can save an average of 2% on your annual electricity bill. (Items plugged directly into outlets—even switched-off—use an estimated 15 watts of electricity as opposed to items plugged into a power strip, which only generates approximately 1 to 3 watts.

Paper Billing vs. Electronic:
Paying your bills online saves paper, energy and postage!

Hand Wash vs. Dishwasher:
Dishwashers can use up to 35% less water in addition to a 15% energy savings (not to mention health benefits) than hand washing.

Through green eyes, we see our failures and our hopes. We see a comprehensive connection between ourselves and our neighbors, our lifestyles and the environment, our choices and the results. The stark realities surrounding green living have caused many to become more socially and personally aware.

As organic beings, we seem inevitably drawn to the pure, the simple, the true things in our lives. It is only natural that we reel with wide-eyed wonder over the green ideals as they relate to healthy lifestyles. Green thoughts become healthy habits empowered by better choices. We revel in renewed conscience, thinking by placing a green value on our choices, making purchase decisions more knowledgably while discarding things more sparingly.

Going green energizes our thoughts along with our decision to live more responsively as it relates to our quest for healthy lifestyles, by seeking and finding wiser choices.
