This issue’s featured builder is Montgomery & Rust, Inc. Founded in 1972 by Murray Rust and Don Montgomery, they have always focused on the design and construction of residential communities that function as an integrated whole.

The firm’s traditions and competencies are being continued and enhanced as the Company transitions to its second generation of owners, Greg Green and Mark Rust.

“We provide a project manager who keeps clients up to date with the production of their home and keeps them current with any customer-driven changes that are requested during construction,” said Murray Rust. “An Internet-based program we subscribe to called Buildlinks keeps clients up to date, even when they are out of town. This program is very helpful to our clients,”

For the last 36 years, Montgomery & Rust has been focusing on community building, creating a unifying theme to the neighborhoods they build rather than the typical cookie-cutter developments that are so prevalent in Western Pennsylvania. The design of each home they build can be further customized to accommodate individual tastes and styles. A variety of interior design options as well as energy efficient and modern technological features are standard qualities of the homes they build. The homes are designed with ease of upkeep in mind, with relatively small lots and low maintenance exteriors.

Montgomery & Rust and its principals have received numerous awards including the 50th Anniversary Urban Redevelopment Authority of Pittsburgh’s Housing Development Award, three different BAMP Housing Excellence Awards, the Pennsylvania Builders Association Builder of the Year Award, and the Builders Association of Metropolitan Pittsburgh (BAMP) Builder of the Year Award.

This dynamic builder has unique projects situated both in suburban and city locations. While working in the city, Montgomery & Rust has worked cooperatively with the Urban Redevelopment Authority of Pittsburgh and, on some projects, with other private-sector partners to transform former well-located industrial sites into incredible residential communities.
