When injured in the line of duty, our nation’s defenders receive state-of-the-art hospital care that helps rebuild broken bodies. Although hospitals patch wounds, they only start individuals on the often long path to recovery. The wounded must work every day to regain lost strength and learn to cope with a changed life. The road to recovery is measured in years, not days, and time in the hospital is only the first step in a lengthy healing process.

The Wounded Warrior Project exists to provide comfort and support to our severely injured service members as they recover and transition into civilian life. The ultimate goal is to empower these men and women to embrace a full, productive life that transcends the limits of injury or disability.

Through a partnership with Disabled Sports USA, the WWP Adaptive Sports Program helps wounded service members reclaim an active, athletic life. Thanks to the WWP the healing veterans are involved in outdoor sports such as outrigger canoeing, water skiing, cycling, snow skiing, rock climbing, hunting & fishing and one of the most popular sports in Western, PA – golfing!

More than just outdoor sports. The WWP is helping rebuild lives of those service members seriously wounded in action. The Outdoors Program is an added program to the already successful programs, like the backpack and family assistance programs, to help and encourage injured service members as they enter the next phase of their recovery.

“The road to recovery is measured in years and through our Wounded Warrior Project Outdoors Program, we will continue to grow a community of active rehabilitation to engage wounded soldiers for a lifetime,” stated John Melia, Executive Director and Co-founder of the Wounded Warrior Project.

WWP Outdoors involves these brave citizens in outdoor sporting events with other healing service members. They are building a community of active rehabilitation that helps individuals get outdoors, regain strength, have fun and build lifelong friendships.

Outdoor sports offer a world of freedom to recovering individuals. It enables them to experience greater empowerment in their own healing process.

Each outdoor activity is directed by trained counselors who conduct the events and help individuals adapt to the activities. They also help them with their specific disabilities so that all individuals are actively included in each event.

You can get involved in a local event that will benefit our wounded heroes. Join them, and other community leaders, businessmen and women for a round of golf.

The Second Annual Wounded Warrior Project Charity Golf Benefit is being held again this year at Diamond Run Golf Club in Sewickley, PA.

“The ultimate goal is to help raise awareness and funds for the Wounded Warrior Project. But to have such a great course for our players to play, it is a nice reward for those who support the WWP in Pittsburgh,” said Jeff Searcy, Director of Marketing and Development for the WWP.

Diamond Run is a golfing haven for both the average amateur and the seasoned avid golfer. The course is situated in the scenic rolling hills and is a Gary Player Signature Course. The course features 100 sand bunkers strategically located to protect the fairways and greens.

The clubhouse at Diamond Run offers a unique formal elegance with a casual atmosphere. The charming ambiance for the dining area will make for a most enjoyable place to unwind after the WWP Charity Golf Classic.
