SPRING LIFESTYLES: WHITEWATER RAFTING

Photos courtesy of White Water Adventures

There’s no better way to spend a hot summer day than on the river. Take in the beautiful scenery as you wind down the Youghiogheny River and through the protected wilderness of Ohiopyle State Park. There are tours that will suit anyone of any age and of any experience level. From mild to wild, guided or unguided, novice or skilled, whitewater rafting is a great family adventure.

White Water Adventurers provides river rafters many choices because of their excellent location. They offer whitewater river rafting experiences in three states—Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Maryland.

The Lower Youghiogheny River offers class III and IV rapids suitable for beginner to intermediate rafters. This river’s diversity offers fun yet challenging rapids. Experience adrenaline building anticipation and the thrill of accomplishment as you conquer nature’s roller coaster on the whitewater.

The Middle Youghiogheny River offers both Class I and II rapids suitable for beginner rafters. The Middle Yough provides an enjoyable experience in moving water with playful rapids that are accompanied by beautiful scenery and plentiful wildlife. This area of the Yough is a great introduction to whitewater rafting for families and seniors.

The Upper Youghiogheny River offers Class V rapids suitable for advanced to expert rafters. On the Upper Yough, rafters will encounter twists, turns and dizzying drops as you navigate through narrow channels of this extreme whitewater run. The Upper Yough is considered one of the top five commercial whitewater rafting trips in North America.

On the Upper Yough a guide is in every raft. If you consider yourself a whitewater fan, this is one river you can’t pass up.
