ECO LIFE STYLES

Navigating Your Search for Healthy Home Solutions
Home maintenance is about creating a healthy haven that is free from the dusty clutter of our busy lives. In order to establish an environment devoid of outside debris and germs, many homeowners bring out the traditional arsenal of disinfectants and sanitizers. As most will agree, there is nothing quite as cozy as a clean home.

However, growing concerns over toxic ingredients found in many familiar cleaning products has lead consumers to consider alternative ways to create that sparkling clean sanctuary.

Although health and environmental hazards associated with cleaning products have long been noted, it is only recently that the awareness boom has brought about actual, scientifically documented case studies. In the past, traditional studies have elaborated on harmful effects of overexposure or exposure to large doses. The latest studies reveal that even long-term, low-level exposure to toxic chemicals can have a profound adverse impact on the health of humans and animals alike, as well as on the air, soil and water. Low-level toxic exposure is most threatening throughout critical stages of development during pregnancy and to children, ages six months and younger.

As a result, this has generated concern among young families who are increasingly opting for alternative choices in cleaning products and methods as part of their ongoing effort to maintain healthier lifestyles.

But what exactly are “green” products?

Though there are plentiful variations, “green” products and practices are defined as those that have a neutral impact to organic health and the environment.

Green products:

  • Are non-threatening to the health and well-being of people, animals and the environment;
  • Assert bio-friendly manufacturing processes and/or waste disposal to minimize and/or avoid negative invasion to the environment;
  • Practice conservative operations, from energy usage, waste, to packaging and may incorporate recycling and/or recycled products;
  • Regard the sanctity of life, and therefore do not involve the unnecessary use of or cruelty to animals;
  • Utilize sustainable materials that can be controlled and/or replenished

Green cleaning products and processes can be just as effective as traditional ones and, in many instances, they are far more effective and free of harmful residual effects.

The most satisfying part of using green products is being able to rest assured that you have done your very best to provide a healthy, safe home environment for you and your family.
