Deep Creek Lake, Maryland
Garrett County: A Natural Wonderland in Nearby Maryland

Tired of traffic congestion, stop lights and highway stress? Relax and travel by boat at Deep Creek Lake.

Deep Creek Lake is Maryland’s largest freshwater lake, with 65 miles of beautiful shoreline just waiting to be explored. In order to help visitor’s enjoy their stay, many of the lake’s local businesses have provided piers for their customers. Each of these businesses is listed on a special "Travel by Boat" map, which is available at the lake’s Visitor Center. From April 1 until November 1, visitors to Deep Creek Lake don’t need to leave the comfort of their boat to stop at the store or enjoy a night out with friends. Pick up your groceries, go to the hardware store, run out for a quick lunch, take in a movie or get nationally known homemade ice cream—just jump in your boat and go! It’s a Venice-like experience set in the midst of the picturesque mountains of Garrett County.

Deep Creek Lake is a wonderful resource in a majestic setting. Lush, green forested mountains seem to rise out of the lake’s crystal blue waters. You can enjoy this amazing view by staying in one of the lake’s luxurious lakefront rental homes, economical hotel rooms, or cute little cabins. Outdoor lovers can even camp out under the millions of stars that fill the skies above. Feel free to park your boat at your dock while you go exploring. Or, if you don’t own a boat, you can rent one daily or weekly from one of several companies nearby. Of course, don’t forget to get a life jacket for Fido if he’s coming along with you.

Pick up a “Travel By Boat” brochure at the Visitor’s Center or at one of the marinas. This informative pamphlet contains a detailed map of the lake, as well as a number of informative descriptions to help you choose your destinations. Shopping opportunities are unique and diversified on the lake. Pick up bait for a day of fishing, or simply go on a leisurely lake cruise. After a long day of playing, enjoy a relaxing dinner at one of the seven great eateries along the lakefront.

Deep Creek offers more than just boating, however. It’s also a great place for you and the family to spend the weekend. There are more than 700 rental homes available near the lake, not to mention a number of hotels, motels and B&Bs.

Renting is nice, but for those who plan to come back often, Deep Creek offers several ways to have your own place at the lake. Lakefront homes, as well as those with lake access or lake view, are available in a wide range of prices. Options include single family homes, larger homes that may be rented to others, condos and log homes. Ski-in/ski-out homes are popular, as well as others being constructed near the Adventure Sports Center International Complex and village on top of Marsh Mountain.

Fractional home ownership is something new at Deep Creek Lake. It’s an alternative to traditional second home ownership. In this type of ownership, one home can have five owners, each having a minimum of 10 weeks of annual use. Property management includes reservations, concierge services, bill paying, maintenance and repairs.

Other options include off-the-lake homes. Maryland’s second largest county has lots of land with plenty of privacy. With approximately 90,000 acres of land in federal, state, and local parks, slightly more than 30,000 residents and only 13 stop lights, there is little worry about Garrett County becoming overcrowded.

Deep Creek is a four-season resort area known for its water sports, skiing, fishing and a wide variety of outdoor activities. Musical events range from Music on the Mountain with the Deep Creek Symphony, to foot-stomping Appalachian jam sessions. And of course, there are dozens of unique and diversified shopping opportunities available.

The small towns around Deep Creek offer visitors that old fashioned, welcoming “Main Street” feel. Festivals, musical series, art shows, wine events and craft exhibits abound throughout the year.

Deep Creek is the perfect place for a second home. If you are still planning the construction of your new home, or maybe just decorating your current place, just look around; many businesses in the area offer services from design to turn-key access.

“Come be our guest,” says Charlie Ross, President of the Garrett County Chamber of Commerce. “There is plenty to do at Deep Creek Lake, and we invite you to explore and discover the many activities available throughout Garrett County. We are here to help you enjoy your stay.”
