What is Colucci?

That seems to be the question on everyone’s mind. You’ve seen the Billboards and magazine ads, heard the radio advertisements and even seen the commercial on TV, but what really is Colucci?

Colucci Tile, as known in the early years, has proudly been serving the South Hills and surrounding communities since opening its doors in the early 1940’s. Rocco and Ralph Colucci, grandfather and uncle to Carl J. Hilbert, who currently owns and operates the company, started the business as a retail store. The store sold basic standard tile with a few imports. As the new owner, Hilbert decided to remodel and have two floors housing hundreds of samples of tile and natural stone. Hilbert also decided that the best way to stand behind the products he sells is to install them himself.

Before long, Colucci Tile & Marble, Inc. was installing more than 5 residential jobs per week. Today, the showroom has over a thousand samples of ceramic, porcelain, glass, handmade tiles, marble, granite, slate, travertine and onyx tiles. Colucci Tile & Marble, Inc. offers free designing help with their two full-time on staff Interior Designers. Colucci Tile soon moved into the Commercial world of tile installation. "No project is too small or too large," says Hilbert. Colucci Tile & Marble has successfully installed thousands of commercial jobs, including, PNC Park, Nemacolin Woodlands Resort & Spa in Farmington and hundreds of restaurants in Western Pennsylvania and has grown to be one of the largest commercial tile installation subcontractors in Pennsylvania, Ohio, West Virginia and Maryland.

But, Carl J. Hilbert wasn’t done yet. In 1996, he started Colucci Marble & Granite Restoration, which offers a full service marble, granite and terrazzo restoration division. "We needed to offer a solution for fixing beautiful marble floors that are found in some of the older homes and businesses in the Pittsburgh area," says Hilbert. The Restoration department actually saves customers thousands of dollars by restoring scratched marble, granite and terrazzo floors instead of replacing them. Floors that were thought to be ruined with scratches and improper cleaning techniques are made to look new again. Through a series of diamond polishing and grinding, the floors are transformed back to the way they looked when first installed.

With the addition of Colucci Marble & Granite Fabrication, Inc. in 1997, Hilbert was able to bring customers what they needed, a "one stop shop" for flooring and countertop needs. By offering natural stone countertops to customers they were able to make multiple decisions on their remodeling needs at one place. Colucci’s state-of-the-art Fabrication Shop offers an inventory of over 100 slabs that allow clients to hand select the perfect granite or marble for their project. Colucci Fabrication specializes in the installation of granite and marble. They have installed thousands of jobs ranging from simple countertops to complex installations for some of the most prestigious homes, resorts and businesses in the region.

With the staff nearly tripling in size, and an expansion to the Fabrication Facility in the works, Hilbert decided it was time to add the Corporate Office building to the growing company. The office staff and Commercial Division are now located at 517 McNeilly Road. "The Colucci Group just keeps growing," says Hilbert. "Who knows what the future brings, but I guarantee I am not finished yet."
